VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE MINISTRY OF AREA CHURCHES TOGETHER SERVING (ACTS) IN AIKEN COUNTY, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE SIXTY-SIX MEMBER CHURCHES FOR A QUARTER CENTURY OF SERVICE TO THEIR COMMUNITY.
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina are pleased to learn that on August 4, 2011, ACTS will celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary of service to those in need in the Aiken area; and
Whereas, when ACTS began serving clients on August 4, 1986, with sixteen local churches participating, the need for an organization such as ACTS was obvious; and
Whereas, the purpose of ACTS has been to give temporary and emergency aid in the name of Christ to persons in need in the Aiken community; and
Whereas, funded through contributions from individuals, businesses, organizations, and the sixty-six current member churches, as well as from grants and the ACTS Resale Store, ACTS assistance may include food, clothing, overdue utility-bill assistance, prescriptions, heaters, or fans; and
Whereas, volunteers serve the Lord by handling the needs of people seeking assistance from ACTS, and they attempt to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of the clients who are encouraged to become part of a church of their choice; and
Whereas, since its founding, ACTS has provided food for almost two and a half million meals, clothing for sixty-seven thousand individuals, house wares for more than six thousand families, utility assistance for twelve and a half thousand homes, and furniture for almost three and a half thousand homes; and
Whereas, realizing that many people in their area are within one paycheck or less of financial trouble and that many need food, clothing, warmth, prescription medicine, home furnishings, or additional assistance, the volunteers of ACTS reach out in Christ's name to those among them who need a helping hand; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina are grateful for the outstanding service that ACTS has performed in the name of Christ and wish for the volunteers to continue this vital ministry to the citizens of our State for many years to come. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor the ministry of ACTS (Area Churches Together Serving) in Aiken County, and congratulate the sixty-six member churches for a quarter century of service to their community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Vicki Bukovitz, Executive Director of ACTS of Aiken.
