A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR REAGAN HENDRIX OF LEXINGTON COUNTY UPON HER SELECTION AS A DELEGATE TO PALMETTO GIRLS STATE, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER FOR BEING ELECTED GOVERNOR OF THE 2011 PALMETTO GIRLS STATE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Reagan Hendrix of Lexington County was elected governor of the 2011 Palmetto Girls State; and

Whereas, organized and administered by the South Carolina Department of the American Legion Auxiliary since 1947, Palmetto Girls State is a leadership and citizenship training program created to further educate outstanding high school students about state and local government; and

Whereas, five hundred delegates were selected for this year's program based on their leadership skills and the involvement they have shown in their respective schools and communities; and

Whereas, all rising seniors in high school, the delegates experienced governmental procedure at Presbyterian College by simulating political campaigns, elections, and the legislative process, and they learned about the principles of citizenship and civil service from guest speakers, expert panels, and a service project; and

Whereas, Reagan Hendrix was elected to the city council, to the chamber of commerce, and ultimately as governor of the sixty-fifth Palmetto Girls State, and the public speaking which was an integral part of her week-long experience has caused her to reconsider her career choice; and

Whereas, a rising senior at Lexington High School, Reagan works as a waitress at Hudson's Smokehouse and volunteers her time at Pets, Inc.; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take great pleasure in recognizing Reagan Hendrix on her election as governor of Palmetto Girls State and wish her every success as she completes her high school career. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Reagan Hendrix of Lexington County upon her selection as a delegate to Palmetto Girls State, and congratulate her for being elected governor of the 2011 Palmetto Girls State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Reagan Hendrix.
