VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE SOUTH POINTE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM ON ITS IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2011 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, supremely ready for the challenge, the South Pointe High School football team nailed the 2011 Class AAA State Championship title, defeating Bluffton High School 42-27 on December 3, 2011; and
Whereas, the stadium echoed with the shouts of exuberant South Pointe fans, pleased to see their confident predictions of victory realized as a satisfying end to a 14-1 season; and
Whereas, such victories do not come overnight; they take determination and hard work. With proven consistency in both, Coach Strait Herron has built his football program into a championship team that refuses to settle for second best; and
Whereas, making a scintillating season even brighter, the Stallions, also named Charlotte Observer "Sweet 16" champions, produced a Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas All-Star player, Tay Hicklin; the Herald All-Area Offensive Player of the Year, Devin Pearson; and the Herald All-Area AAA Defensive Player of the Year, Corey Neely. In addition, the Herald proclaimed "South Pointe is Team of the Year"; and
Whereas, Coach Herron was named South Carolina Coaches Association Palmetto Champions All-Star Coach for Class AAA Upper State, the Charlotte Observer All-Area Coach of the Year, and the Herald All-Area Coach of the Year; and
Whereas, the Stallions have brought great pride and recognition to their school and community, and the members of the House of Representatives are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such a wonderful group of young athletes. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate the South Pointe High School football team on its impressive win of the 2011 Class AAA State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Al Leonard and Coach Strait Herron of South Pointe High School.
