A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF SISTER MELINDA DENISE HORTON WRIGHT AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Sister Melinda Denise Horton Wright on October 26, 2011; and

Whereas, born on August 17, 1964, to Eva Evarn Horton Wood and Wallace W. Wilson, Melinda attended schools in Jasper County before graduating from South Carolina State University with a bachelor's degree in agribusiness. During college, she joined Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and after graduation worked actively with her alumni chapter until her recent illness; and

Whereas, in her early youth, she was a member of Padgett Branch Baptist Church. After her marriage in 1992, she and her husband began following the teachings of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammed; and

Whereas, loved by many for her caring spirit, Melinda enjoyed life to the fullest. She received a license in cosmetology and was a special caregiver to many members of her family in their illnesses. She was a peacemaker, a quiet woman, yet an aggressive participant on the softball field when playing with the Gillisonville team; and

Whereas, Melinda Denise Horton Wright leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Linus Wright Muhammad; two children, Kelvin and Chad; one granddaughter; and a host of other relatives and friends. She will be missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Sister Melinda Denise Horton Wright and extend the deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Linus Wright Muhammad for the family.
