VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE GOOSE CREEK HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE TEAM, THE COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR CAPTURING THE 2011 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAAA, DIVISION II, STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Goose Creek High School varsity football team of Berkeley County finished their season with a 14-1 record and took top honors in Class AAAA, Division II, for 2011; and
Whereas, to the delight of their fans, the Goose Creek Gators defeated the Greenwood High School Eagles on December 3, 2011, in a commanding 37-21 victory; and
Whereas, the two teams answered touchdown for touchdown until the fourth quarter when Gator Gerald Taylor blocked a punt out of the end zone for a two-point safety for Goose Creek; and
Whereas, the Gators posted 23 unanswered points beginning with junior Tramel Terry's third quarter 21-yard run on a fourth-and-3 reverse play that set up the touchdown by senior Virgil Smalls; and
Whereas, Gator Smalls scored his third game touchdown in the fourth quarter followed by Terry's second one on a thirty-one-yard carry for the 37-21 win; and
Whereas, in a sport that demands strength, skill, and determination, Head Coach Chuck Reedy and his skilled coaching staff used their own athletic ability and training to forge a championship team and teach these young men lessons that will prove invaluable both on and off the gridiron; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the pride and recognition the athletes of the Goose Creek High School varsity football team have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Goose Creek High School varsity football team for an outstanding season, and congratulate the team, the coaches, and school officials for capturing the 2011 South Carolina Class AAAA, Division II, State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Jimmy Huskey and Coach Chuck Reedy.
