A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR SHEILA CRAWFORD UPON THE OCCASION OF HER SIXTIETH BIRTHDAY, AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED HEALTH AND HAPPINESS IN THE YEARS AHEAD.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina are pleased to learn that Sheila Crawford will be honored on her sixtieth birthday at a celebration with her family and her many friends on February 4, 2012; and

Whereas, born in Greenville in 1952, she is the daughter of Nanie Mae Sims and the late Paul Sims, Sr., and attended Bryson High School in Fountain Inn and Wade Hampton High School in Greenville; and

Whereas, succeeding early in life, she participated in the countywide elementary school spelling bee, placing fifth in the county, and was the winner of her high school oratorical competition for students in the eighth through the twelfth grades, and competed in Greenville in the first Miss Black America Pageant; and

Whereas, she earned an associate science degree in computer technology from Tri-County Technical College in Pendleton and a bachelor of science in human resource management from Southern Wesleyan University in Central, and she also studied in London, England; and

Whereas, for over twenty years, she has served as the president of the Pickens County National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and she has served on two committees for Tri-County Technical College; and

Whereas, she reared two fine children: Cassandra LaShun Thomason, a dental hygienist in Liberty, and Sabrina Crawford Gidron, an analytical scientist in Charlotte, North Carolina; and

Whereas, with an obvious passion to secure the spiritual health of young people, she has served as a youth advisor and youth choir director for thirty years and founded the New Hope Baptist Children's Church; and

Whereas, she was employed with Michelin Tire Company for twenty-one years, served as a computer analyst for Greenville Technical College for eight years, and for the last six years has served as a higher education consultant, for which she has received the World Class Service Award; and

Whereas, she has traveled to Israel where she bathed in the Dead Sea, was baptized in the Jordan River, and visited the Mountain of Beatitudes and Qumran, the site of the famous archeological discovery, the Dead Sea Scrolls; and

Whereas, when she visited France, she crossed the English Channel in a catamaran, and among her other travels she has been to Hawaii, climbing up Diamond Head and visiting five of the state's islands; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the many contributions that Sheila Crawford has made to her community and to her church, and extend their sincere congratulations on reaching the milestone of her sixtieth birthday. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Sheila Crawford upon the occasion of her sixtieth birthday, and wish her continued health and happiness in the years ahead.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Sheila Crawford.
