A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR JARED THOMPSON OF DARLINGTON COUNTY, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR HIS SELECTION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED STATES SENATE YOUTH PROGRAM.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Jared Thompson has been chosen as one of only two students to represent the Palmetto State in the United States Senate Youth Program in March; and

Whereas, a resident of Dalzell, Jared Thompson is the son of Amy and Greg Thompson and attends Thomas Sumter Academy where he serves as the senior class student council member; and

Whereas, for fifty years the United States Senate Youth Program, an extremely competitive merit-based program, has brought one hundred four of the most outstanding high school students to Washington, D.C., for an intensive week-long study of the federal government and the people who lead it; and

Whereas, in addition to outstanding leadership abilities and a strong commitment to volunteer work, the student delegates, chosen by the chief educational officer of each state, rank academically in the top one percent of their states among high school juniors and seniors; and

Whereas, while in Washington the students attend meetings and briefings with senators and congressional staff, the President, a justice of the Supreme Court, leaders of cabinet agencies, an ambassador to the United States, and top members of the national media; and

Whereas, the delegates will tour many of the national monuments and several museums as well and will stay at the historic Mayflower Hotel in downtown Washington, D.C.; and

Whereas, Jared Thompson plans to attend the University of South Carolina to pursue a degree in English and pre-law and to attend the University of South Carolina School of Law after completing his undergraduate degree; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the pride and recognition that Jared Thompson has brought to his family, his school, and his community, and they applaud his selection to the United States Senate Youth Program. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Jared Thompson of Darlington County, and congratulate him for his selection to participate in the Fiftieth Anniversary of the United States Senate Youth Program.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Jared Thompson.
