A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE WARMEST CONGRATULATIONS OF THE SENATE TO OUR FRIEND AND COLLEAGUE, THE HONORABLE MICK MULVANEY OF LANCASTER, FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE SENATE AND IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY, UPON HIS ELECTION TO THE UNITED STATES HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND TO WISH HIM THE VERY BEST AS HE UNDERTAKES HIS NEW ROLE SERVING OUR NATION.

Whereas, sworn in on January 5, 2011, Senator Mick Mulvaney became the first Republican from Lancaster County to win the 5th Congressional District House seat in more than 100 years; and

Whereas, Senator Mulvaney graduated from Charlotte Catholic High School and graduated with honors from Georgetown University with a major International Economics, Commerce and Finance.

Whereas, he earned a full scholarship to attend law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating in 1992; and

Whereas, Senator Mulvaney practiced law from 1992 to 1997 with the firm of James, McElroy & Diehl in Charlotte; and

Whereas, in 2000, he joined the family homebuilding and real estate business and while there he participated in the Owner's and Presidents Management Program at Harvard Business School, which he completed in 2006; and

Whereas, Senator Mulvaney was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2006, his first foray into politics, becoming the first Republican ever elected to that position in his District; and

Whereas, in 2008, an unexpected retirement created a vacancy in South Carolina Senate Seat 16, and Mick ran for and won that office in what was widely regarded to be the hardest fought legislative race in South Carolina that year; and

Whereas, during his tenure with the South Carolina Senate, Mick served on the Judiciary Committee, the Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee, the Medical Affairs Committee, the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, and the Corrections Committee; and

Whereas, he was identified as the Freshman Legislator of the Year in 2006 by the Palmetto Family Council for his work on the South Carolina ultrasound bill; and

Whereas, in 2010, he was named Legislator of the Year for his work in support of the State's Emergency Medical Services; and

Whereas, Senator Mulvaney and his wife Pam are the proud parents of triplets; and

Whereas, the citizens of Senate District 16 and of the State, as well as the members and staff of the legislature, will miss Senator Mulvaney and it is with great pleasure and respect that his colleagues desire to publicly applaud his dedication to the high calling of public service. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, extend the warmest congratulations of the Senate to our friend and colleague, the Honorable Mick Mulvaney of Lancaster, for his distinguished service in the Senate and in the General Assembly, upon his election to the United States House of Representatives and to wish him the very best as he undertakes his new role serving our nation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Senator Mulvaney.
