A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 40-37-290, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE MANNER OF PRESCRIBING AND ADMINISTERING PHARMACEUTICAL AGENTS BY AN OPTOMETRIST, SO AS TO PERMIT INJECTIONS INTO THE EYELID AS AN EXCEPTION TO THE PROHIBITION AGAINST MEDICATIONS BEING GIVEN BY INJECTION OR INTRAVENOUSLY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 40-37-290(5) of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 135 of 2005, is further amended to read:

"(5)    no medications may be given by injection or intravenously except for injections into the eyelid."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
