A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE IRMO POLICE DEPARTMENT ON BEING CERTIFIED BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA LAW ENFORCEMENT ACCREDITATION, INC.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives was pleased to learn that the Irmo Police Department was certified by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation, Inc. (SCLEA), on March 22, 2012; and

Whereas, of the more than two hundred law enforcement agencies in South Carolina, only nine have earned this prestigious accreditation from the SCLEA; and

Whereas, created in 1999, SCLEA offers a program through which South Carolina law enforcement agencies can evaluate, strengthen, improve, and maintain their effectiveness; and

Whereas, accreditation with SCLEA ensures that an agency is meeting the highest standards of law enforcement, while demonstrating agency responsiveness to community needs; and

Whereas, SCLEA measures promote controlled liability insurance costs; provide a defense against lawsuits and citizen complaints; assure support from governmental officials; build increased community confidence, respect, and advocacy; offer access to the latest methods developed by law enforcement experts; supply a precise written manual of policies and procedures; produce a better managed department and higher morale among personnel; and

Whereas, on behalf of citizens of the Palmetto State, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives salute the consistent dedication of the Irmo Police Department which has enabled the agency to earn this prestigious accreditation and the voluntary demonstration of the agency's commitment to excellence in law enforcement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the Irmo Police Department on being certified by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation, Inc.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to the Irmo Police Department.
