VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE BELL STREET MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE OLYMPIAD TEAM, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE SCHOLARS AND THEIR COACHES FOR CAPTURING THE 2012 SCIENCE OLYMPIAD STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that the students of the 2012 Science Olympiad team from Bell Street Middle School have secured the state championship title for ten consecutive years; and
Whereas, Science Olympiad tournaments on the state level consist of a series of twenty events covering various disciplines of science, including biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, computers, and technology; and
Whereas, in order to prepare for competition, the team from Bell Street Middle School composed of thirty-four students, fifteen students on each of two teams with four alternates, practiced many Saturdays and often several times during the week; and
Whereas, Head Coach Terri O'Shields and the twenty-four coaches of Bell Street Middle School used their own scientific acumen and training to mold a championship team and set a standard for excellence that will serve these students well in all of their life endeavors; and
Whereas, grappling with the daunting formulas involving force, velocity, and acceleration; concepts such as apogee and perigee; and the machinations of the Krebs cycle and photosynthesis, these scholars have endured demanding practices and have excelled academically; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is grateful for the pride and recognition that the champion scholars of the Bell Street Middle School Science Olympiad team have brought to their school and to their community, and the members extend best wishes to them as they prepare to represent South Carolina in the May 19, 2012, national competition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Bell Street Middle School Science Olympiad team, and congratulate the scholars and their coaches for capturing the 2012 Science Olympiad State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Josie Kate Haupfear and Head Coach Terri O'Shields.
