A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND PARENTS OF WOODRUFF HIGH SCHOOL IN SPARTANBURG COUNTY FOR THEIR COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE, AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR THEIR HIGH ACADEMIC RANKING BY U.S. NEWS AND WORLD REPORT MAGAZINE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that the annual list of the nation's best high schools in U.S. News and World Report has ranked Spartanburg District 4's Woodruff High School as twelfth in the State; and

Whereas, the 2012 online rankings released Tuesday, May 8, 2012, included data on nearly twenty-two thousand public high schools from forty-nine states and the District of Columbia; and

Whereas, schools were analyzed on how students performed on state assessments; then through analysis of advanced-placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) programs, schools were ranked nationally in terms of college readiness; and

Whereas, with almost five thousand gold, silver, and bronze medals awarded, Woodruff ranked 1,348th nationally and twelfth out of the more than two hundred high schools in South Carolina, earning the school a silver award; and

Whereas, the rankings show Woodruff High School as testing higher than the state average for college readiness and proficiency in math and English; and

Whereas, under the leadership of Principal Aaron Fulmer, Woodruff High School employs purposeful instruction, personalized support of students, and a school-wide attitude that focuses on the educational mission and hard work to enable students to succeed; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the commitment to education and the standard of excellence that have set Woodruff High School as an example for education in the Palmetto State, and they expect to hear of the school's continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the students, faculty, and parents of Woodruff High School in Spartanburg County for their commitment to excellence, and congratulate them for their high academic ranking by U.S. News and World Report magazine.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Principal Aaron Fulmer.
