A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR ELEASE AMOS-GOODWIN OF CHARLESTON COUNTY FOR HER COMMITMENT TO ENHANCING THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THE CITIZENS IN HER COMMUNITY.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina are pleased to commend Elease Amos-Goodwin for her outstanding volunteer work in a broad spectrum of civic activities, arts, the church, and other philanthropic endeavors; and

Whereas, Elease Amos-Goodwin served as a volunteer member of the MOJA Arts Festival Planning Committee from 1988 to 1995, as its chair from 1993 to 1996, vice chair in 1992, and coordinator of the MOJA Gala and Heritage Day committees before serving as its program coordinator from 1996 to 2011 until her retirement from the City of Charleston; and

Whereas, from the inception of Art Forms & Theatre Concepts (AFTC), she volunteered countless hours to ensure the success of its theatrical productions, and for sixteen years she served on the board of directors as its treasurer; and

Whereas, president of the South Carolina Council of Catholic Women Coastal Deanery from 2010 to 2012, she served St. Patrick Catholic Church in numerous capacities, and she now serves as the publicity committee chair for the dosquicentennial anniversary of St. Patrick Church which will culminate in December 2012; and

Whereas, a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary (KPCLA), Our Lady of Guadalupe Court 110 for the past twenty years, she currently serves as its Grand Lady; and

Whereas, she previously chaired the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Committee for the Gulf Coast District ladies division for many years and the UNCF Committee for the ladies division at the KPCLA National Conventions; and

Whereas, she was chair of the Legislative Concerns Commission for the Charleston Deanery, and she now serves as historian for the Coastal Deanery; and

Whereas, her extensive community involvement includes serving on the board of directors for the YWCA Greater Charleston, the Charleston Trident Urban League, and the Charleston Branch NAACP; as secretary for the Burke High School Alumni Coalition, treasurer for the Burke High School Class of 1961, and chair for the 45th Reunion of the Class of 1961; and

Whereas, she has participated in a myriad of community educational programs, and as an active member of Community Health Partners Marketing Committee, she coordinated two outreach screenings and dinners for HBO, identifying two hundred fifty adult mentors and two hundred fifty students from mentoring programs to participate with these projects; and

Whereas, among her numerous awards, she was honored as the 2005 South Carolina Catholic Woman of the Year and by the Knights of Peter Claver St. Peter Council 110 for her service to the community and her church, and she was the recipient of the KPCLA Meritorious Silver Medal and the YWCA of Greater Charleston, Inc., 2000 Twin Award and was one of the recipients of President Barack Obama's "The President's Volunteer Service Award-2012 Drum Major for Service." Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Elease Amos-Goodwin of Charleston County for her commitment to enhancing the quality of life for the citizens in her community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Elease Amos-Goodwin.
