TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE MARGARET WEST-SUMPTER UPON HER RETIREMENT FROM THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION AND THANK HER FOR THIRTY-TWO YEARS OF DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVICE.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives has learned that Margaret West-Sumpter is retiring after thirty-two years of dedicated public service; and
Whereas, Margaret Middleton West-Sumpter was born in Richland County at Hopkins, graduated from Lower Richland High School, and attended both Midlands Technical College and Columbia College; and
Whereas, she worked with the public school system as a dedicated and valued employee of Richland County School District One from 1977 to 1989 as Administrative Assistant to the Associate District Superintendant; and
Whereas, Margaret West-Sumpter served the citizens of South Carolina as a dedicated and valued employee of the South Carolina Ethics Commission from 1999 to 2000; and
Whereas, she represented the state employees of South Carolina as a dedicated and valued employee of the South Carolina State Employees Association from 2000 to 2012; and
Whereas, Margaret West-Sumpter is married to Wayne Sumpter, Chief Financial Officer at the Columbia Urban League; and
Whereas, she is the proud mother of three children: Roy West, Ryan West, and Ashley West-Fee; and has three wonderful grandchildren; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful to Margaret West-Sumpter for her significant contributions and dedicated service to the Columbia-Lexington-Richland area, to the State of South Carolina, and to the state employees of South Carolina represented by the South Carolina State Employees Association, and wish her the best in all of her future endeavors. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor and recognize Margaret West-Sumpter upon her retirement from the South Carolina State Employees Association and thank her for her thirty-two years of dedicated public service.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Margaret West-Sumpter.
