A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR BRE'ANNA ORR OF JASPER COUNTY FOR HER OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC, EXTRACURRICULAR, AND COMMUNITY ENDEAVORS, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER FOR CAPTURING FIRST PLACE IN THE 2011 SENATOR FOR A DAY SPEECH CONTEST.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate take great pleasure in commending the achievements of Bre'Anna Orr of Jasper County and the high standards she has set among her peers; and

Whereas, born and reared in Ridgeland, she is the second of five children and has already learned the importance and benefit of strong family life in producing strong character; and

Whereas, as a sixteen-year-old honor-roll sophomore at Ridgeland High School, Bre'Anna maintains high academic standards while excelling in numerous extracurricular activities such as basketball, volleyball, softball, and field and track; and

Whereas, believing in active involvement with her community, she has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club of Jasper County for ten years where her smile and positive attitude have singled her out as a natural leader; and

Whereas, she serves as the treasurer of the Keystone Club, a service-based leadership organization with the Boys & Girls Club, and works well with younger children, meeting their need for a positive role model and seeking to have a lasting impact on their lives; and

Whereas, she was chosen for this honor based on her winning speech at the annual Senator for a Day speech contest, in which she articulated both the problem of teen-dating violence and her recommendation for meeting this crisis with legislation to identify potential predators and offer counseling to them and their victims; and

Whereas, the Senate of the State of South Carolina is pleased to recognize an exceptional daughter of South Carolina such as Bre'Anna Orr, and the members extend best wishes to Bre'Anna and look with interest toward her continued achievements in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Bre'Anna Orr of Jasper County for her outstanding academic, extracurricular, and community endeavors, and congratulate her for capturing first place in the 2011 Senator for a Day speech contest.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Bre'Anna Orr.
