A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF THE HONORABLE OLIN THOMAS "TOM" CORBETT, FORMER MAGISTRATE JUDGE FOR THE WAGENER-SALLEY-AIKEN DISTRICT, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of the Honorable Olin Thomas "Tom" Corbett, former magistrate judge for the Wagener-Salley-Aiken District, on May 5, 2011, at the venerable age of eighty-six; and

Whereas, born the son of George Ollen and Lila Josephine Salley Corbett, Tom Corbett as a young man answered the call of his country to serve as a Merchant Marine during World War II; and

Whereas, in later days, "Mr. Tom," as he was affectionately known, was magistrate judge for the Wagener-Salley-Aiken District for more than twenty years. He also served as a municipal judge for Salley and Perry; and

Whereas, he was a member of Salley Baptist Church and Dean Swamp Masonic Lodge 172, and he loved farming; and

Whereas, Judge Corbett leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of fifty-eight years, Elzene Poole Corbett; his children, Sharon Ann and Walter Young of Swansea and Janet and Alex Beltzhoover of Charlotte, North Carolina; his grandchildren, James and John Young of Swansea and Elizabeth Beltzhoover of Charlotte, North Carolina; and a host of other relatives and friends. He will be missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of the Honorable Olin Thomas "Tom" Corbett, former magistrate judge for the Wagener-Salley-Aiken District, and extend the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Elzene Poole Corbett for the family.
