A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR JARROD DANKA IN HIS COURAGEOUS STRUGGLES AGAINST KIDNEY DISEASE, AND TO COMMEND THE EFFORTS OF JARROD DANKA DAY IN MYRTLE BEACH TO RAISE FUNDS TO PROVIDE HIM WITH A VITAL KIDNEY TRANSPLANT.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate realize the precious capital of our great State is in the lives of our youth, a valuable resource which we hold in stewardship; and

Whereas, while seventy-three thousand people remain on the active waiting list for a kidney transplant at this moment, only twenty-seven thousand people received a donated kidney in 2011; and

Whereas, one eleven-year-old South Carolinian, Jarrod Danka, was born with two forms of kidney disease and received a kidney transplant in 2009; and

Whereas, in 2010, that transplanted kidney began to fail, and now a second transplant will be required to restore his childhood, or he will face a lifetime in hospitals on dialysis; and

Whereas, a talented "straight A" student, Jarrod has learned at his young age to serve others despite his own struggles, which he does by helping to provide food and clothing for the homeless and by donating his toys to the Ronald McDonald House and Children's Hospital at the University of North Carolina; and

Whereas, Jarrod and his twin sister, Devon, are the children of Tracey and Edward Danka of Myrtle Beach; and

Whereas, organ transplants are extremely expensive, and the Danka family does not have the resources to cover the expenses that insurance does not pay; and

Whereas, on Jarrod Danka Day in Myrtle Beach on April 27, 2012, a special fundraiser for the Jarrod Danka Transplant Fund will be held at the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel and the adjacent Plyler Park, where a silent auction will feature products and services donated by local businesses and local DJs will play beach music and dance favorites for all ages; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate encourage residents and businesses throughout the Grand Strand and across the State to support the efforts of the special fundraiser for Jarrod Danka at the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Jarrod Danka in his courageous struggles against kidney disease, and commend the efforts of Jarrod Danka Day in Myrtle Beach to raise funds to provide him with a vital kidney transplant.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Danka family.
