TO EXPRESS APPRECIATION TO MERRILL A. "JERRY" SAUERBREI OF DORCHESTER COUNTY FOR HIS DEDICATION, COMMITMENT, AND SERVICE TO THE ELECTION PROCESS AND THE VOTERS IN DORCHESTER COUNTY.
Whereas, Merrill A. "Jerry" Sauerbrei of Dorchester County is a native of Port Chester, New York and graduated high school from the Loomis School in Windsor, Connecticut; and
Whereas, he received his B.A. degree in History from the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland; his M.S. degree in Public Administration from Troy State University in Troy, Alabama; and his M.A. degree in Teaching from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina; and
Whereas, he served in the United States Air Force for thirty years as a pilot, Unit Commander, and Aircraft Maintenance Officer; and
Whereas, Mr. Sauerbrei was a Dorchester School District Two Substitute Teacher for eighteen years and now volunteers at Oakbrook Middle School and is a member of Old Fort Baptist Church; and
Whereas, Mr. Sauerbrei has been the devoted husband of Barbara H. Sauerbrei for the last thirty-eight years and is the proud father of Toby Annalisa Sauerbrei, Douglas M. Sauerbrei, and Margaret Gayle Malouf; and
Whereas, Mr. Sauerbrei served on the Dorchester County Board of Elections and Registration for fifteen years, creating a professional, unbiased, and highly competent election system for the county and the voters; and
Whereas, for several years he served as the Acting Chairman; in 2002, he was selected as the Outstanding Election Official in South Carolina; and
Whereas, with Mr. Sauerbrei's leadership, the Dorchester County Board was considered one of the best in the State by the South Carolina State Election Commission; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate appreciate Mr. Sauerbrei's dedication to the election process in our great State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, appreciate Mr. Sauerbrei's dedication, commitment, and service to the election process and the voters in Dorchester County.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Jerry Sauerbrei.
