A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE LAUREN ANGELA KITTLES OF GREENWOOD FOR HER COURAGEOUS BATTLE AGAINST CANCER AND FOR HER SELFLESS EFFORTS IN HELPING OTHERS.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pride in recognizing South Carolinians who display the strength of character and dedication to service upon which this State was founded; and

Whereas, fifteen-year-old Lauren Kittles, a remarkable young resident of Greenwood, was diagnosed in 2009 with Ewing's sarcoma, a very rare cancer that affects approximately two hundred children a year; and

Whereas, though fighting a deadly disease herself, Lauren often turns her time and attention to others. When she is undergoing her chemotherapy treatment, she is most often seen playing with children also under treatment and giving encouragement to their parents; and

Whereas, in addition, Lauren has spoken at many schools, church youth groups, and public events, telling her story and inspiring countless others as she urges them to make the most of their lives because "we are not promised tomorrow"; and

Whereas, Lauren's beauty radiates from within, bringing love and compassion to all as she demonstrates her immeasurable courage and strength; and

Whereas, her courageous and generous spirit, in turn, have won for Lauren the support, encouragement, love, and prayers of the entire Town of Greenwood, which has rallied around Lauren and her family; and

Whereas, as a reflection of the town's love for her, on the evening of July 2, 2010, the American Legion, Post 20, Greenwood, honored Lauren, an athlete herself, by dedicating the evening's baseball game as "Lauren's Field of Dreams"; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to join the American Legion, Post 20, and the Town of Greenwood in recognizing such an extraordinary daughter of South Carolina for her continual giving to others in the face of her personal battle with cancer. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize Lauren Angela Kittles of Greenwood for her courageous battle against cancer and for her selfless efforts in helping others.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lauren Angela Kittles.
