TO HONOR DR. PHILLIP M. BALDWIN, PASTOR OF BETHLEHEM BAPTIST CHURCH IN SIMPSONVILLE, FOR HIS NINETEEN YEARS OF GOSPEL MINISTRY AND TO WISH HIM GOD'S RICHEST BLESSINGS AS HE CONTINUES TO SERVE THE LORD.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives honors those individuals who give tirelessly of themselves to nurture the souls of men; and

Whereas, Dr. Phillip M. Baldwin, pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Simpsonville, stands among their number as an outstanding minister of the Gospel, one much admired by ministerial colleagues, laymen, and the surrounding community alike; and

Whereas, the eighth of nine children, Dr. Phillip M. Baldwin was born the son of the Reverend Lynn Baldwin, Sr., and Ethel Baldwin of Pittsboro; and

Whereas, in preparation for his life's work, Dr. Baldwin graduated from North Carolina A&T State University with a bachelor's degree in industrial technology, followed by a master of divinity from Erskine Theological Seminary in Due West and a doctorate of ministry from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky; and

Whereas, in 1992, Dr. Baldwin answered God's call into the Gospel ministry and in 1993 became pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Simpsonville. Since that time, he has seen God build on the foundation already laid and then nurtured by Dr. Baldwin; and

Whereas, under Dr. Baldwin's leadership, in 1996 Bethlehem Baptist moved into a new sanctuary that seats more than eight hundred. In 1997, Dr. Baldwin revealed to Bethlehem his vision for constructing a Christian Life Center and Academy, which became a reality a few years later. In addition, the church now has two worship services and more than forty ministries; and

Whereas, Phillip Baldwin believes strongly in personal involvement with his community, and his convictions have led him to serve the people of the Palmetto State in numerous capacities. The former moderator of the Reedy River Baptist Association, Dr. Baldwin has served as a faculty member of the Reedy River Baptist Congress of Christian Education. He also is a member of the Palmetto Bank Advisory Board (Fountain Inn branch), co-chair of the Greenville County MLK Dream Weekend, and first vice president of the Baptist Ministers Fellowship of Greenville and Vicinity; and

Whereas, one of the greatest triumphs of his life was when he was able to persuade the former Wynell Harrison to become his wife. They are the proud parents of one daughter, LaJasmine; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives, cognizant of his many years of spiritual nourishment of the people of South Carolina, expresses its grateful thanks to Dr. Baldwin and wishes him God's best as he continues to run the race the Lord has set before him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor Dr. Phillip M. Baldwin, pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Simpsonville, for his nineteen years of Gospel ministry and wish him God's richest blessings as he continues to serve the Lord.
