A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE HELEN VIRGINIA BLACK BELUE ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY ON JUNE 19, 2014, TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

Whereas, a native of Honea Path, South Carolina, Helen Virginia Black Belue was born on June 19, 1914. She was the only daughter born to Paul and Brennie Black. Helen grew up on a large farm with six brothers in the Friendship Community; and

Whereas, Helen married Jean Belue and the two were blessed with two daughters, Frances (Ron) Pratt and Jeannie (Mel) Emory, six grandsons, four great granddaughters, and eight great grandsons; and

Whereas, Helen is a member at Cambridge United Methodist Church where she still attends. She has previously served as a Sunday School teacher and she currently enjoys her involvement with the Ninety Six Senior Citizens at the Depot; and

Whereas, Helen and Jean moved to Ninety Six in 1939, when Jean was a pitcher for the Textile League baseball team for Self Mills. Helen worked in the cloth room as a cloth inspector at the Self Mills Ninety Six plant. She retired from the plant at age seventy; and

Whereas, Helen was also the manager and assistant for the Textile League women's basketball team in the 1940's, and as a Girl Scouts assistant in the 1950's. She supported all of Ninety Six's sports teams and her husband while he served two terms as mayor of Ninety Six. Helen was also a member of the Eastern Star. She was inducted into the Ninety Six Hall of Fame in 2013; and

Whereas, Helen's hobbies include playing cards, making quilts for her family, and fishing. She has always enjoyed sports and has followed her husband playing and coaching baseball for textile teams and little league baseball. Helen enjoyed watching her daughters play high school basketball and now enjoys watching her grandsons playing sports. She enjoys watching the Atlanta Braves and other college and professional baseball and softball teams on television; and

Whereas, Helen loves to talk and tell stories from her childhood. She enjoys church and is proud and supportive of her family and community. She enjoys life; and

Whereas, the Senate is proud to honor Helen in commemorating her one hundredth birthday, and the members join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate, by this resolution, congratulates Helen Virginia Black Belue on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday on June 19, 2014 and wishes her a joyous birthday celebration and much happiness in the days ahead.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Helen Virginia Black Belue.
