A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE HORRY COUNTY POLICE CHIEF SAUNDRA RHODES ON HER PROMOTION TO CHIEF OF POLICE AND TO THANK HER FOR HER MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF HORRY COUNTY.

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly is pleased to learn that Saundra Rhodes of the Horry County Police Department was promoted to chief of police for Horry County on July 1, 2012; and

Whereas, in preparation for her career, Conway native Saundra Rhodes graduated from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, followed by a master's degree, also in criminal justice, from the University of Cincinnati; and

Whereas, having been hired as an undercover narcotics detective, she began her career with the Horry County Police Department in 1993 and has worked for the department for more than nineteen years; and

Whereas, over the years, she also has worked for the department as a plainclothes narcotics detective; community policing sergeant with the Support Services Division, in which position she deployed five of the six policing teams throughout the county; lieutenant with three divisions; commanding captain for the Support Services Division and Criminal Investigations Division; and precinct commander for the North Precinct; and

Whereas, on February 17, 2012, she was appointed interim chief of police, a post that became permanent the following July when she was named chief of police; and

Whereas, in addition, Saundra Rhodes has served since 2009 as an adjunct professor at Horry Georgetown Technical College, where she teaches criminal justice; and

Whereas, because she strongly believes in active community involvement and commitment, she is a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church #1 in Conway, the Waccamaw American Leadership Forum, South Carolina Chiefs of Police Association, and National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives; and

Whereas, at home, she is the proud mother of a fourteen-year-old son, Cameron; and

Whereas, grateful for her dedication and years of fine service, the General Assembly takes great pleasure in saluting Chief Saundra Rhodes on her promotion to chief of police for Horry County, and the members wish her much continued success in the years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Horry County Police Chief Saundra Rhodes on her promotion to chief of police and thank her for her many years of outstanding service to the people of Horry County.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Chief Saundra Rhodes.
