A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR NICK LAFAVE FOR HIS EXEMPLARY WORK AS AN EDUCATOR IN THE PALMETTO STATE AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR BEING NAMED THE 2012-2013 CLOVER SCHOOL DISTRICT TEACHER OF THE YEAR.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Nick LaFave was named the 2012-2013 Clover School District Teacher of the Year during opening convocation at the Clover School District Auditorium on Wednesday, August 15, 2012; and

Whereas, during the ceremony, he was presented with a trophy and monetary awards from the Clover School District and the Family Trust Federal Credit Union; and

Whereas, he earned a bachelor's degree in biology from the State University of New York at Potsdam and is currently working toward a master's degree in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in educational technology at Winthrop University; and

Whereas, now in his sixteenth year as an educator, Mr. LaFave has served for five years at Clover High School as an environmental science teacher with the advanced credentials of National Board Certification; and

Whereas, he is a leader in integrating technology into education, experimenting on effective uses of social media and even cell phones in the classroom; and

Whereas, in the summer of 2012 through a fellowship at Duke University, he spent two months in the Arctic with a team of educators from across the globe researching wolf spiders and their impact on the environment, which has broadened his appreciation for the excellent quality of education taking place in his community; and

Whereas, Mr. LaFave is an innovative leader among an outstanding and dedicated force of teachers in our State who are preparing students in South Carolina to meet the demands of this millennium with confident skills and meaningful education; and

Whereas, his ongoing evaluation and fine tuning of his educational techniques and his adaptive teaching methods enable him to find new ways to engage and inspire students; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the exceptional service as an educator that Nick LaFave has contributed to the Clover School District and for the recognition he has received as the district's 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Nick LaFave for his exemplary work as an educator in the Palmetto State and congratulate him for being named the 2012-2013 Clover School District Teacher of the Year.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Nick LaFave.
