A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND GREENVILLE WATER FOR ITS CONTINUAL STRIVING FOR EXCELLENCE IN PROVIDING QUALITY DRINKING WATER AND A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE FOR RESIDENCES AND BUSINESSES IN UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO CONGRATULATE THE COMPANY ON RECEIVING THE PARTNERSHIP FOR SAFE WATER PHASE IV PRESIDENT'S AWARD.

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly is pleased to learn that Greenville Water recently received the Partnership for Safe Water Phase IV President's Award for its outstanding plant performance. The coveted but rarely earned award recognizes the highest level of performance that can be achieved in the program; and

Whereas, the Partnership for Safe Water, in which Greenville Water is an active participant, is a national initiative developed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the American Water Works Association, and other water organizations representing water suppliers that strive to provide high-quality drinking water that surpasses federal standards through treatment plant and distribution system optimization; and

Whereas, the provider of quality water service to more than five hundred thousand residents of the Upstate region of South Carolina, Greenville Water owns and maintains more than twenty-six thousand acres of highly protected mountain watersheds in their natural pristine condition and actively strives to improve the management of these watersheds to further protect water quality; and

Whereas, Greenville Water operates the Stovall Water Treatment Plant, which utilizes an innovative filtration and treatment technique known as "dissolved air flotation" that can effectively and efficiently treat up to seventy-five million gallons a day of high-quality drinking water; and

Whereas, appreciative of Greenville Water's well-deserved reputation for excellence, the General Assembly takes great pleasure in saluting the company on receiving this latest testimony to that reputation, the Partnership for Safe Water Phase IV President's Award. The members also gratefully acknowledge the significant commitment of the Greenville Water Commission of Public Works, which oversees Greenville Water, in managing and protecting one of our most precious natural resources. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend Greenville Water for its continual striving for excellence in providing quality drinking water and a sustainable future for residences and businesses in Upstate South Carolina and congratulate the company on receiving the Partnership for Safe Water Phase IV President's Award.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to the commissioners of the Greenville Water System.
