A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR BROOK SILL FOR HER EXCEPTIONAL POISE, TALENT, AND BEAUTY AND TO CONGRATULATE HER FOR BEING NAMED MISS SOUTH CAROLINA TEEN FOR 2013.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Brook Sill was crowned the 2013 Miss South Carolina Teen; and

Whereas, a resident of Duncan, the reigning Miss South Carolina Teen was the first runner-up in the 2011 Miss South Carolina Teen Pageant as a high school freshman; and

Whereas, now a senior at the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities, Brook Sill has received academic honors as a member of the National Honor Society, the Dean's List, the National Honor Society for Dance Arts, and the National Beta Club; and

Whereas, she has served as a delegate to Palmetto Girls State, a counselor in training at Camp Voyager, her homeroom president at Byrnes High School, the president of the student council at Dawkins Middle School, an officer for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and a dance team leader; and

Whereas, her numerous awards include the Presidential Volunteer Service Award; the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards; the Boston Ballet Summer Intensive; the North Carolina Dance Theatre Summer Intensive for two consecutive years; and the International Ballet Summer Intensive for three consecutive years; and

Whereas, all her life, she has wanted only one thing, and that is to dance. For her talent she performed a    contemporary jazz dance, entitled "Girl On Fire," and she has performed with the Greer Little Theatre in a production of Grease as Cha Cha DiGregorio; and

Whereas, during her reign, she has promoted the Miss South Carolina Organization as a relevant means for South Carolina girls to impact their own lives, as well as the lives of others, and raised funds and awareness for her platform issue, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Through social media and speaking opportunities, she has also created awareness for teen self-acceptance; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the outstanding role model that Brook Sill has offered as Miss South Carolina Teen 2013 and her dedication in helping teens throughout the Palmetto State to be aware of and to realize their potential. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Brook Sill for her exceptional poise, talent, and beauty and congratulate her for being named Miss South Carolina Teen for 2013.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Brook Sill.
