A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MRS. EULA BELL SMITH OF GREENVILLE COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER NINETIETH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Mrs. Eula Bell Smith of Greenville County will celebrate her ninetieth birthday on July 27, 2014; and

Whereas, born on July 27, 1924, in Wilkes County, Georgia, Eula Bell Smith came into this world when the twentieth century was still in its youth, and she has been witness to nearly all the incredible changes and developments that have come to this nation from that time into the second decade of the twenty-first century; and

Whereas, Mrs. Smith was one of eleven children. The family did not have extensive resources, so she learned to appreciate all the blessings God granted her. This lesson has stayed with her all her life; and

Whereas, among the blessings God gave her were her son (now deceased) and two daughters, and she is the proud grandmother of seven. She enjoys spending time with her family; and

Whereas, indulging in another of her enjoyments, traveling, Mrs. Smith has visited Hawaii, the Bahamas, and the Holy Land, the latter being her favorite of these destinations; and

Whereas, at home, her neighbors appreciate this longtime resident of the Nicholtown community for her baking of delicious cakes, which she bestows on the sick and other favored recipients. So exceptional are her culinary offerings that she is known far and wide in the community for her baking expertise; and

Whereas, after thirty-eight years of service, she retired from Greenville General Hospital, but she has never retired from her patriotic duty to vote during elections in spite of the challenges of transportation; and

Whereas, for many decades, this woman of faith has attended Macedonia Baptist Church, where she serves on the deaconess board; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to honor this truly lovely lady at the celebration of her ninetieth birthday, and the members join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Mrs. Eula Bell Smith of Greenville County on the occasion of her ninetieth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and much happiness in the days ahead.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Mrs. Eula Bell Smith.
