A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR WFMV, COLUMBIA'S INSPIRATION STATION 95.3FM, FOR TWENTY YEARS OF KEEPING THE COLUMBIA COMMUNITY INFORMED AND ENTERTAINED WITH TREND-SETTING GOSPEL MUSIC AND NEWS HEADLINES, AND TO CELEBRATE WITH THE WFMV STAFF AND LISTENING FAMILY THEIR JOYOUS TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY TO BE OBSERVED AT THE FAMILY FEST AND MEMORIAL TRIBUTE HELD AT COLUMBIA'S FINLAY PARK.

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to learn that WFMV, Columbia's Inspiration Station 95.3FM, will celebrate its twentieth anniversary during the Family Fest and Memorial Day Tribute at Columbia's Finlay Park on Sunday, May 25, 2014; and

Whereas, South Carolina's largest and longest running outdoor family festival and Memorial Day tribute and the largest African-American outdoor event in the State, Family Fest will feature James Fortune and Fiya, a two-time Grammy Award nominated and multiple Stellar award winning national recording artist, as well as other popular South Carolina church and community choirs and ensembles to nourish the soul; and

Whereas, an enormous outdoor food court and free rides and exciting activities in the Kidz Korner will provide food and entertainment, and Palmetto Health will provide free health screenings for diabetes, prostate, and blood pressure; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Army National Guard will present a Memorial Day tribute to fallen veterans and will recognize the contributions of veterans and their families to the nation. Local veteran organizations and the Combat Veterans Group will conduct the Posting of the Wreath ceremony; and

Whereas, with a deep commitment to the community, Family Fest has sponsored the Future Leader Scholarship since 1998, established by WFMV to award students who are academically strong but lack financial resources needed to attend college. The scholarship has assisted more than ninety college-bound students and awarded more than $146,500 in scholarships; and

Whereas, for twenty years WFMV has featured such informative, inspirational, and entertaining programs as the Yolanda Adams Morning Show, Jamal and Stacy, Empowering Moments with Bishop T. D. Jakes, the All Request Lunch Hour, Let's Talk, Praise Party Mega Mix, and Another Level; and

Whereas, because of its success in setting music trends that spread to Gospel radio stations across the country, WFMV was named the 1995 Southeast Music Award Radio Station of the Year and the 2007 and 2010 Stellar Award Station of the Year and was nominated for both the Marconi Award for Religious Radio Station of the Year and the Radio and Records Gospel Station of the Year from 2007 to 2010 and for the 2009 NAB Crystal Award; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the profound impact that WFMV has had on the Palmetto State and on the nation for two decades and wish the station many more decades of Gospel music broadcasting success. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor WFMV, Columbia's Inspiration Station 95.3FM, for twenty years of keeping the Columbia community informed and entertained with trend-setting Gospel music and news headlines, and celebrate with the WFMV staff and listening family their joyous twentieth anniversary to be observed at the Family Fest and Memorial Tribute held at Columbia's Finlay Park.
