A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE CHRIST CHURCH EPISCOPAL SCHOOL BOYS VARSITY TENNIS TEAM AND ITS COACHES FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2013 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AA/A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Christ Church Episcopal School tennis team of Greenville County took top honors at the state competition on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center; and

Whereas, after losing the 2012 title to Waccamaw High School by a 4-3 score, Christ Church Cavalier fans and team members were jubilant as they wrested the crown from the Waccamaw Warriors with a 6-1 final score; and

Whereas, the Cavaliers survived several tie-breaking challenges to win the title: number 1 singles player, freshman Hayes Sherman, won his tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-4, 10-7; number 4 singles player, Harrison Parvey, won his tiebreaker in 7-5, 1-6, 10-8; and the team's number 2 doubles team, Jim Yarbrough and Haigen Mirando took their tiebreaker, 7-5, 3-6, 10-4; and

Whereas, the Cavalier team led by team captain, senior Tyler Hardy, in addition to the players mentioned above, also included Wes Quattlebaum, Jim Pennell, Julian Gallus, Jackson Houser, Preston Freeman, Walker Carroll, and Ben Norwood; and

Whereas, since 1976, the powerhouse Cavalier tennis team has brought home twenty-four state titles, more than any other sport in all size classifications in this State; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands strength, agility, and skill, Head Coach Bobby Austell and Assistant Coach Detlev Nitsche capitalized on their own athletic ability and training to mold a championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the court; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the pride and recognition that the Christ Church tennis players have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the seasons ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Christ Church Episcopal School boys varsity tennis team and its coaches for an outstanding season, and congratulate them for winning the 2013 South Carolina Class AA/A State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Bobby Austell for the team.
