A JOINT RESOLUTION

TO PROVIDE FOR THE WAIVER OF FIVE OR FEWER DAYS THAT SCHOOLS IN THE SPARTANBURG SCHOOL DISTRICT CLOSED IN 2014 DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER FROM WINTER STORM LEON AND WINTER STORM PAX FROM THE STATUTORY REQUIREMENT THAT SCHOOL DAYS MISSED DUE TO SNOW, EXTREME WEATHER, OR OTHER DISRUPTIONS BE MADE UP, AND TO PROVIDE THAT THIS REQUIREMENT DOES NOT APPLY TO TIME MISSED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER FROM THESE STORMS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    (A)    Five or fewer of the days that public schools, private schools, or home schools in the Spartanburg School District closed in 2014 due to inclement weather in Winter Storm Leon, Winter Storm Pax, or both, may be exempted from the requirement that full school days missed due to snow, extreme weather, or other disruptions be made up. This exemption only may be made for a:

(1)    public school in the district by the board of trustees of Spartanburg School District;

(2)    private school in the district by the headmaster or board of trustees of the school; and

(3)    home school in the district at the discretion of a parent-teacher in the home school.

(B)    The provisions of this section apply notwithstanding the provisions of Section 59-1-245 or another provision of law requiring school time missed by students due to school closure caused by snow, inclement weather conditions, or other disruptions.

SECTION    2.    This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
