VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE MRS. MARGARET TWOMEY OF LEXINGTON COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY, AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MANY YEARS OF CONTINUED HAPPINESS.
Whereas, the members of the Senate are delighted to learn that Mrs. Margaret Twomey of Lexington County will celebrate her one hundredth birthday on June 2, 2016; and
Whereas, Mrs. Twomey was born June 2, 1916, the eighth of nine children. She grew up in Columbia and graduated from Columbia High School and the University of South Carolina, where she earned degrees in English and economics; and
Whereas, Mrs. Twomey became the secretary of the University of South Carolina Athletic Department, where she met her husband, Ted Twomey, the Gamecock football line coach. During their courtship, Coach Twomey taught Margaret to fly a two-seat metal plane, a Luscombe, which she owned and flew for pleasure for many years; and
Whereas, the two were married in 1941 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. The Twomeys had one son, Tim Twomey, a United States Marine, who was seriously disabled in a motorcycle accident. Mrs. Twomey provided years of devoted care until he passed away; and
Whereas, in 2014, Mrs. Twomey, who had retired with her husband to Jacksonville, Florida, returned to her native South Carolina. She is currently an active resident of Still Hopes Retirement Community where she lives independently, enjoys regular exercise, attends Sunday Mass, and never misses a televised University of South Carolina football game. She is and always will be an avid Gamecock fan; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate are pleased to honor Mrs. Twomey at the celebration of her one hundredth birthday and join with her family and many friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Mrs. Margaret Twomey of Lexington County on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and many years of continued happiness.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Margaret Twomey.
