A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES ON THE OCCASION OF ONE HUNDRED ONE YEARS OF OPERATING IN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, TO COMMEND THE DEDICATED SERVICE THAT THE ASSOCIATION HAS GIVEN TO THE CITIZENS OF THIS STATE, AND TO DECLARE MARCH 18, 2015, AS "SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES DAY" IN THE STATE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to learn that the South Carolina Association of Family and Consumer Sciences met for its one hundredth conference on February 19 and 20, 2015, at the Embassy Suites on Greystone Boulevard in Columbia; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, founded as Home Economics, is celebrating one hundred one years of operating in the State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Family and Consumer Sciences is actively involved in finding solutions for issues affecting South Carolinians, including obesity in children and adults, caring for aging family members, financial literacy, improving nutrition knowledge and practices, home and clothing design, and human development education to promote wellness and well-being among all citizens; and

Whereas, Family and Consumer Sciences works through public schools; human services agencies; businesses; colleges and universities; and the Cooperative Extension Service at the local, state, national, and international levels; and

Whereas, Family and Consumer Sciences is recognized as "the comprehensive and integrative source of knowledge and the primary voice focusing on family, individual, and community well-being"; and

Whereas, with deep appreciation the members of the General Assembly celebrate more than a century of outstanding service that the South Carolina Association of Family and Consumer Sciences has provided for the citizens of the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognizes and honors the South Carolina Association of Family and Consumer Sciences on the occasion of one hundred one years of operating in the State of South Carolina, commends the dedicated service that the Association has given to the citizens of this State, and declares March 18, 2015, as "South Carolina Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Day" in the State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Carol G. Weatherford.
