A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO DECLARE MARCH 28-APRIL 2, 2016, AS "COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK IN SOUTH CAROLINA."

Whereas, the week of March 28-April 2, 2016, has been designated as National Community Development Week by the National Community Development Association to celebrate the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) Program; and

Whereas, the CDBG Program provides annual funding and flexibility to local communities for supplying decent, safe, and affordable housing; a suitable living environment; and economic opportunities to residents of low and moderate income; and

Whereas, in addition, the HOME Program provides funding to local communities to create decent, safe, and affordable housing opportunities for those with low income; and

Whereas, it is entirely appropriate to recognize the CDBG Program and HOME Program, which have made such tremendous contributions to the viability of the housing stock, infrastructure, public services, and economic vitality of South Carolina communities. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, declare March 28-April 2, 2016, as "Community Development Week in South Carolina."

Be it further resolved that Congress and the Administration be encouraged to recognize, through increased funding for both programs in fiscal year 2017, the outstanding work being done locally and nationally by the Community Development Block Grant and HOME programs.
