Whereas, born and reared in Charleston, Eric Flowers received his early education at James Simmons Elementary School and graduated from Charleston High School in 1979; and

Whereas, during college he also participated in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) as a cadet and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army upon his graduation; and

Whereas, in the proud tradition of the sons of South Carolina, Mr. Flowers served his country with distinction for fourteen years and was activated during the Gulf War, attaining the rank of captain and serving in the Adjutant General's Corps and as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division Reserve Unit based in Fayetteville, North Carolina; and

Whereas, after being honorably discharged, he began a meaningful career as a South Carolina State Trooper, a career which lasted twenty-six years, and he retired in 2012 with the rank of lieutenant; and

Whereas, a faithful member of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Charleston, he sings in several choirs, and he is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity and holds the title of a 32nd Degree Prince Hall Mason; and

Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
