A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE, RECOGNIZE, AND HONOR MS. SHIRLEY G. BAKER FOR MORE THAN FORTY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO SUMTER SENIOR SERVICES ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT.

Whereas, the members of the Senate are pleased to learn that Ms. Shirley G. Baker, Executive Director of Sumter Senior Services, will enter a much-deserved retirement after more than eight years as director and forty years of devoted service to the organization; and

Whereas, throughout her time with Sumter Senior Services, Ms. Baker has served in many different capacities within the agency; and

Whereas, during her tenure as executive director, Ms. Baker has written and received grant funding in the amount of $4,796,347 which supported programs and services for senior citizens in the Sumter community. She has also been actively involved in the very popular WineFest fundraiser events, which have raised in excess of $278,968 over the past fifteen years; and

Whereas, Ms. Baker is a native of Sumter. She attended Sumter County public schools, Central Carolina Technical College, and the South Carolina Commission on Aging School of Gerontology. She holds numerous certifications in geriatric programs and services; and

Whereas, Ms. Baker is an active member of her community. She serves on the Santee Lynches Transit Council, the DSS Adult Treatment Team, the YWCA of the Upper Lowlands Board of Directors, and the Wateree Community Actions LIHEAP Advisory Committee. She is also actively involved in her church, Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church, where she serves on the Finance Committee, as president of the Inspirational Choir, and as vice chair of the United Methodist Women; and

Whereas, Ms. Baker is the proud mother of two children, Victor Baker, Jr. and Sharon Baker Clark, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the Senate recognize and thank this daughter of South Carolina for her many years of outstanding service to Sumter Senior Services and to the Sumter community, and wish her much success and happiness in all of her future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate, recognize, and honor Ms. Shirley G. Baker for more than forty years of dedicated service to Sumter Senior Services on the occasion of her retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Shirley G. Baker.
