A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE HONORABLE EDWIN "BROTHER" MALLOY DAVIS, PROBATE JUDGE FOR CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER ALMOST THREE DECADES OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate have learned that the Honorable Edwin "Brother" Malloy Davis will begin a well-deserved retirement after twenty-nine years as a highly-regarded probate court judge in Chesterfield County; and

Whereas, in preparation for his long service to his State, Brother Davis graduated from Zoar High School and then earned a bachelor's degree from Newberry College in 1962, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity; and

Whereas, Brother Davis served his country with distinction in the United States Navy as a chaplain's assistant in the fine tradition of the Palmetto State. He served as a pharmaceutical representative for Beecham Laboratory, where he was recognized as the "Outstanding Sales Representative" in 1975 and 1976, and then as the Chesterfield County Veterans' Affairs officer before becoming the county's probate judge; and

Whereas, appointed by Governor Dick Riley as Chesterfield County probate judge on July 1, 1985, Judge Davis has served longer than any other probate judge in Chesterfield County since the Civil War. He did not seek re-election in 2014 but retired at the end of his final term; and

Whereas, in 2001 and 2006, he was voted the "Best Elected Official in Chesterfield County" by the readers of the Chesterfield County Shopper; and

Whereas, married to Elizabeth Holman formerly of Sumter, Judge Davis has four fine step-children and six wonderful grandchildren; and

Whereas, he is a member of the Presbyterian Church, and responds with deep devotion to his community as a member of Kiwanis and the Chesterfield Service Club; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the years of dedication that Brother Davis has devoted to the judicial system of our great State through the Chesterfield County Probate Court and wish him many years of enjoyment in his well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Honorable Edwin "Brother" Malloy Davis, Probate Judge for Chesterfield County, upon the occasion of his retirement after almost three decades of exemplary service, and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable Edwin "Brother" Malloy Davis.
