A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE LAURINE VARNADOE OF BAMBERG SCHOOL DISTRICT ONE UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, TO COMMEND HER FOR FORTY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS AN EDUCATOR, AND TO WISH HER MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives honors those individuals who give tirelessly of themselves to the welfare of this great state's most important legacy, its children; and

Whereas, Bamberg School District One's Laurine Varnadoe, retiring after forty fruitful years as a classroom teacher, stands among their number as an outstanding public benefactor, one much admired in her role as an educator; and

Whereas, born and raised in Bamberg County, Laurine Varnadoe is a product of the Ehrhardt and Bamberg public schools. Upon graduation from Bamberg High School, she studied two years at the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie and continued her education at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, where she earned her bachelor's degree in education in 1974 and her master's degree in elementary education in 1977; and

Whereas, Mrs. Varnadoe began her teaching career at Bamberg School District One in 1974, where she has taught for forty years. During her career, she has educated, and shaped the lives of, almost one thousand fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade language arts and math and science students. In addition to her day-to-day teaching, Mrs. Varnadoe has been an active force in implementing after-school enrichment programs and summer acceleration programs for the students of Ehrhardt Elementary and Richard Carroll Elementary; and

Whereas, long acknowledged as a master teacher, Laurine Varnadoe received public recognition of that mastery when she was named Teacher of the Year by Governor Jim Hodges for the 2000-2001 school year; and

Whereas, within her profession, she is a member of the South Carolina Education Association and the National Education Association. As a woman of faith, she attends Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church in Ehrhardt; and

Whereas, Laurine Varnadoe and her husband, Richard, raised a fine family of two children, Ricky and Lori Anna, who have given their parents the joy of two fine grandchildren, Lucy and Graham; and

Whereas, during her well-earned retirement, beginning in June 2015, the House trusts Mrs. Varnadoe will find herself more frequently able to read, travel, spend time with family, and cheer on the Clemson Tigers; and

Whereas, having set the bar of achievement high in her profession, Laurine Varnadoe will be remembered with affection and gratitude by colleagues, students, parents, and legislative friends for years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Laurine Varnadoe of Bamberg School District One upon the occasion of her retirement, commend her for forty years of dedicated service as an educator, and wish her much happiness and fulfillment in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Laurine Varnadoe.
