A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR REVEREND ABRAHAM L. SALLEY OF ST. JOHN BAPTIST CHURCH IN NEWBERRY, SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Reverend Abraham L. Salley for his faithful service in preaching the word of God; and

Whereas, Reverend Abraham L. Salley was born in North, South Carolina, the youngest of five children born to the late Sintha Gail Salley. Reverend Salley graduated from North High School, Claflin University with a bachelor's degree, and the Morris College Extension Program under the leadership of Dr. Blakely Scott at First Nazareth Baptist Church of Columbia; and

Whereas, Reverend Salley was baptized in 1999 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he served as Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School Department and Director of Vacation Bible School. After obtaining a ministerial license to preach the gospel from Bethlehem Baptist Church, he served as an Associate Minister under the leadership of Pastor Felix C. Anderson. He also became the Youth Minister of New Laurel Street Missionary Baptist Church in Columbia. In 2009, Reverend Salley was ordained by the Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Association and the New Laurel Street Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Charles B. Jackson, Jr.; and

Whereas, in January 2018, Reverend Salley was elected the fifth pastor of St. John Baptist Church in Newberry, South Carolina, which was organized in 1878 by Reverend West Maybin, Deacon Ed Suber, and Deacon Elliot Rutherford; and

Whereas, Reverend Salley also currently serves as the Minister of Visitation and Administration at New Laurel Street Missionary Baptist Church and as Youth Auxiliary President for the Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Association; and

Whereas, in honor of his outstanding leadership, Reverend Salley received the New Laurel Street Missionary Baptist Church Leadership Award in 2010; and

Whereas, an active community leader, Reverend Salley owns two thriving businesses, Sowing Good Seeds Landscaping and Perfect Image Cleaning Services; and

Whereas, Reverend Salley, in his passion for serving others, has also been an outspoken supporter and advocate of breast cancer awareness since his mother's passing in 2006 from the disease; and

Whereas, Reverend Salley is the proud husband of Brandis Salley and the father of Abram James Salley and Braylen L. Salley; and

Whereas, his mission is to make an impact by preaching Christ's word to those in need of a Savior. His motto is best told by the Apostle Paul in Romans 12:1-2: "I beseech you therefore, brethren by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service: and be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, acceptable and perfect, will of God"; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are grateful for the ministry of Reverend Abraham L. Salley and his service to the community of Newberry and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Reverend Abraham L. Salley of St. John Baptist Church in Newberry, South Carolina.
