A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE KATHERINE B. "KITTY" GORDON UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AS PRINCIPAL OF MEAD HALL EPISCOPAL SCHOOL IN AIKEN, TO COMMEND HER FOR HER MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CHILDREN OF THIS STATE, AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Katherine B. "Kitty" Gordon upon the occasion of her retirement as Head of School at Mead Hall Episcopal School in Aiken on June 30, 2018; and

Whereas, a native of Virginia, Kitty Gordon earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the College of William and Mary and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Virginia; and

Whereas, Mrs. Gordon initially pursued a career in engineering, including a stint at the Savannah River Site, before finding her calling as a fierce advocate for Episcopal education; and

Whereas, for eighteen years, Mrs. Gordon has faithfully dedicated herself to the faculty and families of Mead Hall Episcopal School. She began her service with the school as a middle school math teacher and, in 2003, became Head of School; and

Whereas, during her tenure at Mead Hall, she has spent tireless hours sharing her wisdom with the school's gifted educators, caring for its students and families, and supporting its greater mission of educating children toward academic excellence, spiritual growth, and moral integrity. She also provided critical leadership during the merger of Mead Hall and Aiken Preparatory School; and

Whereas, Mrs. Gordon has worked tirelessly to ensure that Mead Hall provides to its students, in her words, "a strong education and a strong foundation on which to build their lives"; and

Whereas, Mrs. Gordon finds strong support in her family: her husband, John, and sons, Will and Graham; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the passion and dedication that Katherine B. "Kitty" Gordon has shown in serving the children of this State. The members take immense pleasure in wishing her well as she enters retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Katherine B. "Kitty" Gordon upon the occasion of her retirement as principal of Mead Hall Episcopal School in Aiken, commend her for her many years of dedicated service to the children of this State, and wish her continued success in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Katherine B. "Kitty" Gordon.
