TO DECLARE THURSDAY, MAY 4, 2017, "SOUTH CAROLINA TEEN PREGNANCY PREVENTION DAY" IN SOUTH CAROLINA AND HONOR THE VALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA CAMPAIGN TO PREVENT TEEN PREGNANCY, THEIR PARTNERS WITHIN LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND ORGANIZATIONS, PARENTS, EDUCATORS, AND TRUSTED ADULTS.

Whereas, teen pregnancies have far-reaching consequences that adversely affect the health, education, and economic future of South Carolina's young people; and

Whereas, in 2015, more than four thousand teens, ages fifteen to nineteen, gave birth in our State; and

Whereas, teen birth rates in South Carolina decreased by sixty-four percent between 1991 and 2005; and

Whereas, teen birth rates in South Carolina decreased by eight percent between 2014 and 2015; and

Whereas, Teen Pregnancy Month is an opportunity for parents, teens, educators, program providers, faith-based organizations, local elected leaders, and statewide policymakers, working together, to reduce and prevent teen pregnancy in South Carolina. Now therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, declare Thursday, May 4, 2017, "South Carolina Teen Pregnancy Prevention Day" in South Carolina and honor the valuable contributions of the South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, their partners within local communities and organizations, parents, educators, and trusted adults.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to board, executive members, and staff members of the South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy.
