A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR QUEENIE M. BOYD OF LEE COUNTY FOR HER OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP IN PUBLIC EDUCATION, TO CONGRATULATE HER ON BEING ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION, AND TO WISH HER WELL DURING HER TENURE AS PRESIDENT.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Queenie M. Boyd of Lee County has been elected president of the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) for 2017. A nonprofit organization, the SCSBA serves as a statewide voice and source of information for boards governing the state's eighty-one school districts; and

Whereas, a longtime advocate for public education, Mrs. Boyd brings to her new post a strong background in school board leadership, consensus building, and a passion for achieving results that are in the best interests of students; and

Whereas, Mrs. Boyd was first elected to the SCSBA board in 2006 as director of Region 6, which represents school boards in Chesterfield, Darlington, Kershaw, Lee, and Marlboro counties. She was elected to the Lee County School District board in 1988 and has served that organization as both chairman and vice chairman. She is also a founding member of the district's academic booster club; and

Whereas, this lifelong Lee County resident graduated from Dennis High School and attended Allen University in Columbia. She retired from REXAM Beverage Cans, where she worked for thirty-four years, and she is very active in community and church organizations; and

Whereas, a woman of faith, Queenie Boyd finds spiritual strength as a committed member of Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she serves with the yearbook committee, Voices of Liberty Choir, YWA, and missionary ministries. Further strength comes from the support of her husband, Alexander; their four children; and three delightful grandsons; and

Whereas, the House takes great pleasure in adding its tribute to the extensive praise received by this distinguished leader in public education, and the members extend best wishes to Mrs. Boyd for a highly successful tenure as president of the SCSBA and for many more productive years of service to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Queenie M. Boyd of Lee County for her outstanding leadership in public education, congratulate her on being elected president of the South Carolina School Boards Association, and wish her well during her tenure as president.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Queenie M. Boyd.
