A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR BERKELEY COUNTY CORONER WILLIAM "BILL" SALISBURY UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, TO EXTEND DEEP APPRECIATION FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO BERKELEY COUNTY, AND TO OFFER BEST WISHES FOR A SATISFYING AND REWARDING RETIREMENT.

Whereas, Berkeley County Coroner William "Bill" Salisbury, who has served the people of Berkeley County all his life, will begin a well-deserved retirement on December 31, 2018; and

Whereas, Bill Salisbury started as a volunteer with the Berkeley County Coroner's Office in 1992 under Wade Arnette, coroner at that time. In 1999, Bill went on the county payroll as a part-time crime scene technician/deputy coroner; and

Whereas, in 2003, he was promoted to chief deputy coroner under the late Glenn Rhoad. In 2011, he was elected coroner; and

Whereas, this Berkeley County native was a volunteer member of the Berkeley County Rescue Squad for decades and was serving as chief at the time of the squad's disbanding in 2018. He volunteered with the Moncks Corner City Fire Department and Moncks Corner Rural Fire Department for more than twenty years each and was assistant chief in both departments for many years. Bill also served on the Moncks Corner Town Council for twelve years; and

Whereas, in the past, Bill served on the Moncks Corner Medical Center Advisory Board. He remains a member of the South Carolina Coroner's Association, South Carolina Association for Identification, Fraternal Order of Police, International Homicide Investigators Association, National Rifle Association, Berkeley County Sheriff's Office Auxiliary Program, and Berkeley County Chaplaincy Program Board. In addition, Bill retired from the federal government with twenty-seven years' service; and

Whereas, Bill finds strength for his labors in the firm support of his family: his bride of more than forty years, Margaret; their son, Will; their daughter, Tammy; and two delightful grandchildren. Bill relishes hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, and he looks forward to spending more time indulging in all these joys; and

Whereas, Bill Salisbury's contributions to his community, county, and State comprise a memorable legacy of civic involvement and public service. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate and honor Berkeley County Coroner William "Bill" Salisbury upon the occasion of his retirement, extend deep appreciation for his many years of service to Berkeley County, and offer best wishes for a satisfying and rewarding retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to William "Bill" Salisbury.
