TO CONGRATULATE LULA GOODSON DANIELS OF RICHLAND COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.
Whereas, on July 13, 2020, Lula Goodson Daniels of Richland County awakened to the celebration of a milestone event: her one hundredth birthday; and
Whereas, born on July 13, 1920, in Hopkins, Lula was the daughter of Napoleon Bonaparte and Leila Randolph Goodson. One of eleven siblings, the young Lula found life easy, even though times were tough. Over the course of her long life, she has been privileged to witness events most of us only read about in history books; and
Whereas, Mrs. Daniels has been blessed with seven children, two guardian sons, nineteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren; and
Whereas, a devoted housewife and mother, this centenarian also loves her community and is quite active in her church. As a woman of great faith, she loves her church family at Word of Truth Ministry and Worship Center. Mrs. Daniels holds that the key to longevity is being kind to others and understanding that if you treat people well, God will bless you; and
Whereas, when asked what this lady of wisdom is like, those who have the privilege of knowing her describe Lula Daniels as a very humble and grateful person, a good listener, and a great friend. She thanks God each and every day for His goodness to her; and
Whereas, today, Mrs. Daniels still enjoys cooking, driving short distances, volunteering at her church, and reading her Bible and the monthly edition of the local Living Magazine. Her favorite scripture is one of the Ten Commandments: "Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee" (Exodus 20:12, KJV); and
Whereas, to honor her at this very special time in her life, beloved family and friends joined together on July 18, 2020, in hosting a celebratory parade, held on Martin Luther King Boulevard; and
Whereas, it is a great pleasure to honor this daughter of South Carolina at the celebration of her one hundredth birthday and to join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this important life milestone. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Lula Goodson Daniels of Richland County on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and much happiness in the days ahead.
