VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE PEE DEE ACADEMY VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR CAPTURING THE 2018 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Pee Dee Academy softball team of Marion County took top honors at the state competition held at Robert E. Lee Academy's field on Wednesday, May 16, 2018; and
Whereas, for five consecutive years, the Pee Dee Academy Lady Golden Eagles have played in the final game of the state championship. On May 16, 2018, they accomplished the feat that had so long been denied them: the acquisition of the SCISA 2A State Championship title; and
Whereas, the Lady Eagles defeated a competitive Williamsburg Academy team 1-0 to end the series and secure the team's first state trophy; and
Whereas, in the bottom of the first inning, the Williamsburg Lady Stallions loaded the bases with two outs, but Pee Dee's winning pitcher Bailee Elvington generated a flyout to close the inning; and
Whereas, in the top of the third inning, an error from the Lady Stallions set Pee Dee up for the game's only run when Brittany Moore reached base and advanced on a wild pitch before April Lewis hit a single that enabled her teammate to reach home. The score remained 1-0 for the rest of the game; and
Whereas, in a sport that demands strength, strategy, and agility, Head Coach Bill Rogers and his skilled coaching staff capitalized on their own athletic ability and training to build a championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the diamond; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the pride and recognition that the Pee Dee Academy softball players have brought to their school and their community and look forward to hearing of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Pee Dee Academy varsity softball team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for capturing the 2018 South Carolina Independent School Association Class 2A State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Headmaster Hal Townsend and Coach Bill Rogers.
