A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE FORT MILL HIGH SCHOOL BOYS VARSITY LACROSSE TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR A REMARKABLE SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2019 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Fort Mill lacrosse team of York County garnered the state trophy at the state tournament held at W.C. Hawkins Stadium on the campus of Irmo High School on Saturday, April 27, 2019; and

Whereas, to the cheers of their exuberant fans, the number one ranked Fort Mill Yellow Jackets defeated a fine, competitive Wando High School team ranked number 2, 13-8, to capture the state title, deny Wando its fifth consecutive state lacrosse title, and end the 2019 season with a 15-3 record; and

Whereas, in their four previous state finals matchups, Wando captured three state titles, with Fort Mill last winning it all in 2014; and

Whereas, Fort Mill and Wando were tied 6-6 at the half thanks to impressive double goals each from Yellow Jackets Zach Terry, Jack McGuire, and Trenton Wylie; and

Whereas, in a brilliant performance in the second half, Zach Terry opened the period with back-to-back goals for his team and posted a total of four in the second half, giving credit to his teammates who cleared the space to make it happen; and

Whereas, before the Warriors could find the crease for their only goal of the third quarter, Fort Mill added another goal for a three-goal run. With about five minutes left in the quarter, Trenton Wylie bagged his fourth goal of the game for a Fort Mill 10-7 lead over Wando; and

Whereas, in the fourth quarter, Zach Terry added another two goals for a total of six goals in the championship game and Trenton Wylie added another one, bringing his game total to five, but Wando would only make a single goal in the final quarter for the final 13-8 score; and

Whereas, in a sport that requires quickness, agility, and controlled power, Head Coach Parker Thomas and his skilled coaching staff maximized their own experience and passion to hone a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the field; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives values the pride and recognition that the Fort Mill lacrosse players have brought to their school and their community, and the members look to hear of their continued achievements in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Fort Mill High School boys varsity lacrosse team, coaches, and school officials for a remarkable season and congratulate them for winning the 2019 South Carolina Class AAAAA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Gales Scroggs and Coach Parker Thomas.
