VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE J. L. MANN HIGH SCHOOL BOYS SWIM TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR A REMARKABLE SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2019 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the J. L. Mann High School boys swim team of Greenville County took home the state trophy from the state competition held on Monday, October 14, 2019; and
Whereas, to the cheers of their exuberant fans, the J. L. Mann Patriots defeated a fine, competitive field of comers to win the state championship with a team score of 332.5, just 2 points ahead of Nation Ford High School and 2.5 points ahead of Mauldin High School, the team's first state title after a number of near misses since 2008; and
Whereas, as the size of J. L. Mann has grown larger, its classification has moved from AAA to AAAA to AAAAA, competition swim times have gotten shorter, and winning state meets has gotten tougher; and
Whereas, in this year's close match up, Bruce Bannister posted a win in the 100-yard breaststroke for the Patriots in 57.90 seconds, which put the team in position for victory. Teammates Zach Zahorec and Julian Lazea bolstered the team's score in the same event with seventh and eighth place finishes, respectively, adding enough to put J. L. Mann on top and they didn't look back; and
Whereas, in a sport that demands speed measured with an economy of strength, Head Coach Cile Williamson and her skilled coaching staff utilized their own experience and passion to hone a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes invaluable life lessons; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives values the pride and recognition that the J. L. Mann swimmers have brought to their school and their community, and the members look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the J. L. Mann High School boys swim team, coaches, and school officials for a remarkable season and congratulate them for winning the 2019 South Carolina Class AAAAA State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Charlie Mayfield and Coach Cile Williamson.
