A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF LEIGH JOHNSON SNELGROVE OF CHARLESTON COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HER AMAZING AND SUPPORTIVE FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Leigh Johnson Snelgrove at the age of thirty-one on Monday, February 3, 2020; and

Whereas, born in Aiken on January 10, 1989, Leigh Snelgrove was a daughter of Von Pope Snelgrove and Vicki Ruby Johnson Snelgrove. She was reared in a loving home with her sister and dear friend, Beverly Snelgrove, and she graduated from Aiken High School; and

Whereas, she earned a bachelor's degree in biology and German from Wofford College in 2011 and subsequently attained a Master of Arts in Teaching with honors from the University of South Carolina in 2013; and

Whereas, Ms. Snelgrove was an advanced placement biology and honors teacher at White Knoll High School, A. C. Flora High School, and most recently at the Academic Magnet High School in North Charleston; and

Whereas, she inspired her students, their parents, and her fellow teachers and everyone who entered her classroom, making a difference and touching so many with her kindness to reach their potential and more; and

Whereas, Ms. Snelgrove's doctors recognized her scientific understanding and conversed with her in their familiar language; and

Whereas, along with her loving parents and sister, she is survived by her grandmother, Doris Johnson; uncles, Todd Johnson, Brad Johnson, and Keith Snelgrove; aunts, Paige Johnson, Risse Snelgrove, and Susie Johnson; cousins, Gray Johnson, Stuart Johnson, Scott Johnson, Kristin Snelgrove, Jana Snelgrove, and Cherie Schooley; and

Whereas, Ms. Snelgrove was preceded in death by her grandfathers, VonLeigh O. Snelgrove and B. Henderson Johnson, Jr.; her grandmother, Anne P. Snelgrove; and her uncle, Barry H. Johnson; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life of Leigh Snelgrove, for the impact she had on so many young students in our State, and for the example of excellence and kindness she set for all who knew her. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Leigh Johnson Snelgrove of Charleston County and extend their deepest sympathy to her large and loving family and her amazing and supportive friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Leigh Johnson Snelgrove.
