VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE AND COMMEND WILLIAM SIMON FOR HIS SERVICE TO NEW ST. MATTHEW MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH OF BENNETTSVILLE, AND TO RECOGNIZE HIS LIFETIME OF DEDICATED SERVICE IN SUPPORT OF HIS LOCAL COMMUNITY.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to pause in their deliberations to recognize individuals like William Simon who devote themselves to improving their local communities and the Palmetto State as a whole; and
Whereas, Mr. Simon served as a Sergeant in the United States Army, receiving a Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Following his military service, he began a life of civil service as a law enforcement officer. During the course of his career he has served as a Marlboro County Police Corporal, a South Carolina State Highway Patrol Corporal, the first African American Sheriff of Marlboro County, and as a part of the South Carolina U.S. Marshals Service; and
Whereas, to achieve this prestigious career track, William pursued studies at Florence-Darlington Technical College, where he earned an associate's degree in Criminal Justice. He also received training at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, the National Sheriffs' Institute, and the Training Academy of the U.S. Marshals Service; and
Whereas, during the course of his life, Mr. Simon has been honored as a part of Who's Who among Students in American Colleges in 1975-1976. He was also named WBSC Lawman of the Year in 1988; has also been privileged to receive a Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Contribution to the community, the state, and nation from Congressman Jim Clyburn in 2000; and has maintained membership in the American Legion; and
Whereas, involved in a variety of undertakings within his local community, William was appointed to a five-year term on the Housing Community and Redevelopment Authority of Marlboro County Board. He also has served five years as the president of the Bennettsville Breakfast Club, a group dedicated to serving and supporting the community; and
Whereas, in service to New St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, Mr. Simon serves as trustee treasurer, brotherhood president, and former pulpit aide ministry secretary. He also serves on the church beautification committee and the finance committee; and
Whereas, appreciative of the commitment and selflessness William Simon has bestowed on this great State, particularly his home community, it is a great pleasure to thank him for his service and wish him well as he continues to go above and beyond in service to others. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate and commend William Simon for his service to New St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church of Bennettsville, and recognize his lifetime of dedicated service in support of his local community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to William Simon.
