A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE IMPORTANCE OF EMERGING BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY AND TO CALL UPON THE RESIDENTS OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO JOIN IN ENCOURAGING THE PROMOTION OF BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY IN OUR STATE.

Whereas, fostering emerging technologies throughout the Palmetto State is an urgent priority; and

Whereas, nonprofits and other blockchain advocacy oraganizations have partnered with city organizations, including the City of Charleston, with state organizations, like the South Carolina Council on Competitiveness; and with the University of South Carolina-Darla Moore School of Business and Clemson University to encourage students and employers to learn more about emerging technology, specifically blockchain; and

Whereas, because of South Carolina's strong manufacturing and workforce, our State has a distinct opportunity to become the capital for the real-world application of the emerging technology of blockchain; and

Whereas, South Carolina is the ideal location for the leaders and innovators of emerging technology companies, and the State's research hospitals, universities, and organizations are embarking on collaborative initiatives to make South Carolina the hub of blockchain in the Southeast. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, acknowledge the importance of emerging blockchain technology and call upon the residents of South Carolina to join in encouraging the promotion of blockchain technology in our State.
