A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE SOUTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL FOR SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS' BOYS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM FOR A SUCCESSFUL SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THE TEAM AND COACHES ON CAPTURING THE 2017 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) 2017 boys cross country team experienced a banner year, much to the delight of Eagle fans and the disappointment of GSSM rivals; and

Whereas, in ultimate testimony to their 2017 achievements, on Saturday, November 4, 2017, the GSSM boys cross country team members, competing against strong runners representing twelve other 1A schools from across South Carolina, ran away with the top prize, and they did it with style; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands endurance, speed, and mental focus, Coach Mike Rhodes forged a championship team through successfully imparting his own athletic skills and time-tested lessons from his years of coaching; and

Whereas, to make a sweet win even sweeter, all of GSSM's five runners were named All-Region, and four were also tapped for All-State recognition; and

Whereas, the GSSM boys cross country team has succeeded in bringing home a state title and, in so doing, has brought great pride to its school and community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics' boys cross country team for a successful season and congratulate the team and coaches on capturing the 2017 Class A State Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to President Hector Flores and Coach Mike Rhodes of the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics.
