TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MARKEITH DRAKEFORD OF INDIAN LAND HIGH SCHOOL FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON WINNING THE 2019 CLASS AAA INDIVIDUAL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE IN WRESTLING.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that junior Markeith Drakeford of Indian Land High School took top honors at the Class AAA Individual State Championship (160-pound category), held at the Anderson Civic Center on February 23, 2019; and
Whereas, in his first trip to the Class AAA Individual State Championship, this young wrestler captured the gold with a 6-4 decision over his Chester High School opponent; and
Whereas, he saw his opponent take a 2-0 lead early, but a determined Markeith Drakeford did not waver from his strategy and goal. He kept his mat composure and prevailed; and
Whereas, the 160-pounder's route to the individual state crown included a 3-0 run: pin, 3-1 decision, and 6-4 decision; and
Whereas, further, in Indian Land's 44-12 win over Gilbert for the Class AAA State Team Championship title on February 2, Markeith Drakeford capped the match with a 10-0 major decision; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the pride and recognition that Markeith Drakeford has brought to his school and community and look to hear of his future success in the days to come. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Markeith Drakeford of Indian Land High School for an outstanding season and congratulate him on winning the 2019 Class AAA Individual State Championship title in wrestling.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Markeith Drakeford.
